I was puzzled when I unpacked my new sheets from their shipping box, and found a label on the plastic zipper bag stating '100% cotton'. These sheets, purchased through Amazon, from the Egyptian Cotton Factory Outlet Store, are advertised online as being: "Rayon from BAMBOO Sheet Set - Queen Size Blue 1000 Thread Count Cotton Sheet Set (Deep Pocket)." I thought I would be getting a blend of bamboo rayon and Egyptian cotton, but I should have been suspicious at the use of the phrase "[...] Cotton Sheet Set"!!!

The description that followed, however, reinforced my decision to purchase the sheets: "These sheets are (a)soft, luxurious fusion of 60% Bamboo derived Rayon & 40% Egyptian cotton. [...] The fusion of Egyptian cotton makes this new product in a class above the rest. As many people are used to Egyptian cotton sheets, this new blend creates a meeting point between old and new, luxury and softness." Note that although it does clearly describe a 'blend', the labels sewn into the sheets themselves, say '100% Egyptian cotton'. The only 'bamboo' anywhere near these sheets appears to be the printed letters 'b-a-m-b-o-o', unless the manufacturer was unaware of US labeling laws and very proud of his Egyptian cotton

I am keeping the sheets even though they are devoid of bamboo, according to the labeling. :o( I won't know for sure if they'll work until I wash them. For now, they are soft, have a nice 'hand' and are a lovely shade of blue -- like a blue sky. The thread count boast is 1200, but keep in mind that some, but not all, of the extremely high thread counts (typically over 500) tend to be misleading as they usually count the individual threads in 'plied' yarns (a yarn that is made by twisting together multiple finer threads). For marketing purposes, Wikipedia says that a fabric with 250 two-ply yarns in both the vertical and horizontal direction could have the component threads counted to a 1000 thread count, although, [...] accepted industry practice is to count each thread as one, even threads spun as two- or three-ply yarn. Under this rule, these sheets qualify to be labeled 'percale', and will be very, VERY nice percale, due to the Egyptian cotton. As 100% cotton, I would give them 4 stars and probably 5 eventually.

So, as in the Latin proverb, 'Caveat Emptor', let the buyer, beware!
